We will probably have the meeting room that is on your left on the main floor just as you come in from the East entrance.
Larry Slatter and Rich Bruder have left the club. Rich is joining a flying club closer to his home, and we thank him for his service as Club Secretary. On the plus side, Dan Di Sebastian is joining and Carter Billieu is re-joining our club. Welcome back Carter! And welcome to Dan who comes with an impressive flying resume. We trust Carter and Dan will have a wonderful flying experience with MANG. With these changes, the club membership is currently full and there is no waiting list, since those that remained on the waiting list have all withdrawn.
As Rich reported in the previous newsletter, we are asking all members to notify a maintenance officer (Jim King or the maintenance person for the plane in question) whenever you write up a squawk. If you think the problem is too small to bother with a phone call, at least send an e-mail. Remember this: getting a phone call might be a small inconvenience, but being left in the dark about something causes an even bigger inconvenience for the maintenance people.
As of this writing it seems that some sort of wireless gate opener will be available for the West gate. The East gate still has a lock that will work with your key. The wireless gate openers are being sold by Birdcage management for $65 for the first one and $35 for each additional one. We have not yet determined how this will be handled for our club.

Jim Sullivan reports on his experience flying commercial from Arizona to Michigan. He asked the flight attendant to ask the captain if he could use his Garmin GPS. She returned from the cockpit and said two of the captains said 'no' and one said 'yes'. Jim then told the flight attendant that on other flights he had been given permission to use his GPS above 10000 ft. She returned a few minutes later with FARs. In paragraph 120.8.5 it lists portable GPSs as one of the devices that are allowed above 10000 feet.
Members Speak Up!
If you come across an item of news or information (like Jim's GPS report) that would be of interest to the rest of the membership in the newsletter, please send it to Club Secretary, Bob Scott, at
