Membership is currently full and there are two completed applications. George and Violet Daniel will be leaving MANG at the end of May, so these two applicants will be notified of the available spaces. As for George and Vi, Dave LaPointe speaks for all of us when he says:
After years (too many to count) as dedicated members of MANG Aero Club, George and Vi Daniel will be leaving the club at the end of May. MANG Aero Club would like to take this opportunity to thank George and Vi for being the backbone of this club for all these years. In their years with MANG, George and Vi have held positions on the Board of Directors and countless other activities. When the Club needed something done, both George and Vi were always ready, willing and able to help out.
The Club is truly going to miss them both. We wish you a fond farewell and our best to both of you.
George and Vi are not leaving the aviation community completely. They still have their Bonanza hangared at Willow Run. If you see them out flying someday, stop over, say hi and thank them for all the years of services to MANG Aero Club.
MANG Aero Club members, please welcome new member David Schrader, who has this to say:
I started flying 20 years ago. I have always been interested in flying, and thought it was an ambition I would never achieve. A good friend of the family was a flight instructor, and that presented me with the opportunity to try to be a pilot. I started flight lessons, and loved it. After I got my private pilot rating, I found that Michigan weather was hit and miss. So, I felt it was really important to get an instrument rating in order to find more freedom in scheduling flights without getting stranded somewhere far from home. To meet the requirement then for instrument ratings, I had to build my flight hours. Renting was expensive, so I joined a flight club at Detroit City Airport. I spent 15 years in that club and many years in different positions on the board. After getting my instrument rating, I heard a flight instructor giving ground training to a student working on their commercial rating. I found it interesting, and decided to continue with another rating to try and learn more about flying. One rating lead to another. Now I am a flight instrument instructor, a multiengine instructor, and have many other ratings, including a seaplane rating. I enjoy instructing and sharing the experience of flying with students. My next rating I am working on is an ATP rating. I may never use it, but I will learn something while achieving it. With all the ratings I have received, I am still a student pilot. When you think you know it all, you have stopped learning.
Keep Your Info Updated with MANG
When you get a new medical certificate or pass a flight review, remember to forward a copy of the documentation to our Safety Training Officier, Alan Hickman. You can send him copies by mail or scan them and send them by e-mail. Otherwise your scheduling privileges may be suspended. Also, if you have a change of address, e-mail, or phone numbers, please update them in ScheduleMaster. You can do this yourself by clicking on "User". Then click on your ID number to bring up your membership information. As you scroll through the information boxes, you can change any and all information about yourself. At the end you will be asked to save all new information in the Club's date base.
