Looking for Chief Maintenance Officer
Jim King plans to leave his position as Chief Maintenance Officer (and the club) at the end of his term in December. We need to find someone who can fill this important position, and the sooner the better. Finding a replacement early will permit valuable overlap time for Jim to show the new person the ropes.
The Chief Maintenance Officer receives 1.5 hours of flight time credit per month. The duties for this office are:
Has overall responsibility for keeping all Club aircraft properly maintained and in good condition.
Ensures members assisting in maintenance are properly trained.
Makes recommendations to Board for Assistant Maintenance Officers for each aircraft.
Determines what work shall be done by FBOs and what work will be done by members (consistent with FARs and members' skills and qualifications).
Schedules work with FBOs. (Only the Chief Maintenance Officer or the President can authorize work. However, some situations may require delegating this authority to Assistant Maintenance Officers or another member).
Orders specialized maintenance supplies: tires, batteries, brake pads, parts, etc.
Keeps President and Board Members informed of general status of airworthiness of Club aircraft. Notifies Board immediately of significant problems.
Determines that work that has been performed on Club aircraft is noted and logged in appropriate records.
Attends Board Meetings.
Our prototype custom MANG checklist for the Warrior has been in use for a month, and comments have been generally favorable. A more permanent version will soon be made. If you have any comments on this checklist, please send them to Bob Scott. If you haven't seen the one in the Warrior yet, then you can review the text of the checklist on-line at:
When Dion Zammit washed the white towels for cleaning aircraft windows recently, he found a piece of saftey wire in one of them. This was probably a fluke, but it is a good time to remind everyone that these towels are to be reserved for cleaning the windows only. If any abrasive dirt becomes embedded in them, they could scratch our delicate windows. So please help to keep the window-cleaning towels for windows only. If you need a wipe for checking the oil, use a paper towel or a rag provided for that purpose.
