Mon. Jan. 9, 6:00 - Board Meeting at the Hangar or Birdcage Lounge
(A more complete calendar will be in the January Newsletter.)
Events in 2006:
Saturday plane washes will be scheduled for 9 AM to 1 PM instead of all day as before. This should allow members more use of the planes on plane-wash days.
Normally we hold our yearly Election of Officers at the membership meeting in December, which also happens to be the Holiday Party. Club By-Laws require at least 18 members present for the election to be completed. Since we had just 16 members at the Holiday Party, we collected the 16 ballots from those present, and then extended the voting for one week. In addition, for the first time in a long time, we had more than one nominee for a position: Vice-President. An e-mail was sent to all the members who were not at the meeting inviting them to vote by return e-mail or by U.S. mail. After one week, 14 more ballots were received, for a total of 30 voting members. Here are the results for the election of Officers of MANG Aero Club for 2006:
President:
Vice-President:
Secretary:
Treasurer:
In addition to the elected Offices, all the appointed Officers have agreed to return for 2006. In the event that new insurance arrangements cannot be found to permit Dion Zammit to fly our planes, Dion has trained Dale Thorsby to take over as Operations Officers. See our Home page for the current listing of all Officers and their contact information.
Thanks to President Dave:
MANG Aero Club would like to take this opportunity to thank Dave LaPointe for his three years of service as Club President. During that tenure, Dave was always very organized and prepared for the Board meetings. He scheduled Club functions well in advance and did all he could to make those events a success. He was in control, and yet was always polite and respectful of everyone's views and interests. Dave was instrumental in retrieving the Archer from Chicago and in working with Avemco Insurance and Solo Aviation to get it put back together without incurring a debt to the Club. He organized the radio replacement committee to upgrade the NAV/COMs in the Warrior and Archer to the Garmin 430 GPS which have been a big hit with everyone. Thanks, Dave, for a job well done!
Stuart Munro is in the process of joining MANG Aero. He is just starting out as a student pilot. He is a paramedic for the city of Detroit, also works as a programmer, and lives in Madison Heights. Welcome Stuart!
The MANG Aero Holiday Party was held at Atlantis Restaurant in Livonia. Although the turnout was small (28 including guests), a good time was had by all. Background music was provided by a another party of female vocalists in the adjoining room who sang Christmas carols. Drawings were held for party favors including two $50 gift certificates for Sporty's, four $25 gift certificates for Sporty's, six one-hour flying credits for MANG Aero, and four Poinsettia flowers. Thanks to Jean LaPointe for her ever-popular airplane cookies.
