Using Schedulemaster Notifications
Here is a reminder from Steve Thornburg on how you can effectively use Schedule Master to "fly stand-by":
Does someone have the plane scheduled when you want it? This used to happen to me all the time when I was a student in the club. Did you know that you can request a notification to alert you when someone cancels a schedule that you want? You can be alerted by e-mail, fax, or pager.
There are two ways to view the schedule - "List" and "Calendar" views. If you use the calendar view, just click on the bar for the time slot you want, and check the boxes for the kinds of notification that you want. If and when that schedule is cancalled, the requested notifications will be sent to you, giving you the opportunity to make your own schedule for the newly-available times. If you use one of the "List" type scheduling views, just click on the little symbol (looks like a St. Louis Blues flying note) next to the mailbox to bring up the notification check boxes. History has shown that one half of all schedules are cancelled before they are used. If you request a notification, chances are 50/50 that you will be able to use the plane at the time it was reserved by someone else. Likewise, please cancel a schedule as soon as you know you can't use it. This will trigger any pending notifications for your time slot, and the planes can be used by someone else.
While we are on the subject of cancellations, we would like to remind members that it is very easy to cancel or end a schedule by phone. If you only use the Internet access to Schedule Master, you may not know that the telephone access to this service has been set up to streamline the most common operations. All you need to carry with you is the Schedule Master phone number (800-414-6114), your user number, and your PIN number (a 6-digit number). Just follow the prompts. They are brief and to the point. So if you end your flight well before your scheduled end time, and don't have immediate access to the Internet, just pick up your cell phone and cancel right there at the hangar. If you would like to print out a little business card-sized quick reference, then click here. Just cut out and fold on the line and it can fit nicely in your wallet.
We have a new member: Paul Plumley from Dexter. That brings our membership back up to 51.
The Thunder Over Michigan airshow associated with the Yankee Air Museum will be held August 5th and 6th. If you would like to stop by the MANG hangars on those days, some of us will be there as well. Just tell the admissions people that you are going "to your hangar" and you should not have to pay anything to get in. The MANG grill will be available for your use, along with soda from the fridge, but no food will be provided. If you want any, bring your own.
