Friday, December 5th 6:00 PM Holiday Party @ TBD
This year for our Holiday Party we are returning to Atlantis in Livonia where we were two years ago. { Here are some pictures from last year's party.} Instead of a fixed cover charge, this year everyone will be able to order from a menu with choices ranging from $11.95 to $18.95 (plus tax and gratuity), as shown in the e-mail sent to all members from Steve Thornburg recently. If you have not yet made plans for that day (November 30th at 6:30 PM) and would like to attend, please let Steve know before November 28th. Atlantis is at 39500 Ann Arbor Rd., just East of I-275. Hope to see you there!
Since we may not have a quorum at the Holiday Party, where we traditionally elect our Club Officers for the following year, we ask that you send in your votes by mail or e-mail if you are not attending. By the rules of our Club, we cannot install Officers for the next year unless at least 1/3 of the membership votes. You can e-mail your votes to me, Bob Scott (Club Secretary), by replying to the e-mail that you received announcing this newsletter. You can also lookup any member's e-mail address on Schedulemaster. As of the last Board Meeting, the four current elected Officers were all nominated and willing to serve for another year:
Steve Thornburg (President)
Kevin Grammes (Vice-President)
Bob Scott (Secretary)
Joe McEvoy (Treasurer)
In addition to these four elected Officers, we also have a number of Officers that will be appointed by the Board in January. All currently appointed Officers have indicated they are willing to serve for another year. But if you have a strong desire to serve in any of these positions, make your wishes known to the Board before the January meeting. Besides the satisfaction of serving your Club, these positions also provide some flying hour credits, as described in this Club Document.
We now have a MANG fuel account at Solo Aviation at Ann Arbor, in addition to our account at AvFlight East at Willow Run. Just pull up to the terminal building and ask Solo Aviation for a fill-up. Tell them to charge it to MANG. After-hours there is a $25 charge to have someone come out to the airport, so try to stop by during business hours for Solo.
Paul Fortino has reported he recently had to replace the main tires on our Cessna after only two months of service. The reason - flat spots on both tires from skidding. This could be from someone landing while holding the brakes. As you are about to touch down, please remember to press only the bottoms of the rudder pedals until you get the plane on the ground. The wheels have a hard enough time getting up to speed on touchdown without the added drag of brake pressure.
Garmin 430 Limited to East Central
Operations Officer Dale Thorsby wants everyone to know that the database in our Garmin 430s only covers the East Central region - from the Dakotas down to Texas and from Maine down to Florida. If anyone is planning an IFR trip out west of this area, you must plan for navigation that does not rely on the database. Of course you can still manually select VORs and ILSs, but don't expect to find these approaches stored in the 430.
It may come as news to some of you, but the panel clock in the Warrior is a wind-up clock. It only runs and keeps time if it is wound periodically.
Movie Night Again - Safety/Training Report
Another movie night was held on Nov. 6th at the Bird Cage Pilot Lounge. The group discussed departure stalls and light sport airplanes and watched the movie "Flying Leathernecks" provided by John Keck. The next movie night will be some time in December (TBD) with planes available for Night Flight/Currency. Find a buddy or CFI and come fly. Three take-offs and landings should take about 30 minutes (weather permitting). Regardless of the weather, there is always the movie and safety/training discussion.
