MANG-Sponsored Safety Seminar - April 24th
MANG is sponsoring an MDOT Safety Seminar on Tuesday, April 24th the the Plymouth Library from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. If anyone would like to help set up chairs, etc., then show up around 5:15 PM. Remember to wear you MANG shirt, if you have one. This is an opportunity to promote our Club among local pilots. The Seminar topics are:

The Top 10 Things Every IFR Pilot Should Know
First Plane Wash of the Year - April 28th
Saturday, April 28th is our first plane wash of the year. It starts around 9 AM, but you can come later if you like. We will have a barbecue with hot dogs and hamburgers immediately afterwards. Dave LaPointe has been kind enough to wash and store the towels that we use for drying the planes. If anyone has any old bath towels that they would like to donate to the cause, bring them along. John Keck suggested that we review the procedure for reporting maintenance problems, so we will do that too. Come and meet other MANG members and have a good time!
Now that we are getting into better flying weather, it is more important that ever to observe common courtesy in scheduling. We want you to fly. But when you decide not to fly, then please cancel your schedule as soon as possible. It is easy to do either on the Internet or using the telephone. If you want to review the scheduling rules, they are here. We also have a nice little card that you can print and put in your wallet with a summary of the Schedulemaster phone codes. And if you don't have that card with you, don't worry. The Schedulemaster voice prompts lead you through all the options. All you need is your user ID (6 digits) and password (4 digits).
Since we recently changed our Club insurance deductible from $300 to $1000, the issue of member liability was discussed at the last Board Meeting. (Just as a reminder, all Board meetings are open to the general membership, so you are welcome to come and join in the discussion any time.) We noticed that the current wording of the By-Laws and Club Regulations are in need of updating to make them consistent with our Constitution. The Board discussed moving item C.5 from the Regulations to the By-Laws and changing the wording to read:
In the event of damage while a plane is signed out, the responsible member will be liable for up to the first $1000 of that damage. Exceptions may be considered by written appeal to the Board.
The existing wording of item C.5 in the Club Regulations is:
In the event of an insurance claim, the deductible portion will be paid by the member ultimately held responsible for generating the claim.
The reason for removing the reference to "insurance" is that we want to cover situations where we decide not to file a claim in order to keep from losing our insurance coverage. In any case, the member liability is the same as if we had filed a claim.
We also want to clarify the Regulations to make it clear that a member who signs out a plane is financially responsible for getting it home. That means if the member is unable to return the plane, then that member will be charged for the flight time of the person who does ultimately bring it home.
If you have any thoughts on these changes, then make sure to attend the June 16th Plane Wash and General Membership Meeting where these changes will be voted on. Or forward your ideas to a Board member for discussion at the next Board Meeting on Monday, May 21st. Or come to the Board Meeting yourself.
We Have Tie-down Ropes and Anchors!
Did you know that MANG has tie-down ropes and corkscrew anchors? I didn't. So when it was mentioned at the last Board Meeting that we had these items, I just had to go and see for myself. Sure enough, we have three sets - one for each plane. They are stored on the bracket/shelf of the back wall of the Warrior hangar. When might you need tie-downs? Well, Dan Wadowski reports that Gaylord Airport didn't have ropes once when he landed there. He had his friend hold the plane while he took a taxi into town to buy some ropes at a hardware store. So if you think you need to bring tie-down ropes, just look for the bagged ropes on the wall behind the Warrior.
