Gate Access Badges Being Issued
About 35 of our 55 members so far have gone through the process of getting the new Willow Run access badges. The procedure is described here on our website. The projected date of the gate changeover has been delayed due to bad weather. The Willow Run Operations Office said they will notify us two weeks before the date when it becomes definite.
The Willow Run Operations Office schedule for training classes has been changed to:
Monday: 9:00 AM
Tuesday: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
Wednesday: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
Thursday: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM
Due to to staffing levels, the Operations Office will be closed on Monday, March 17 and Monday, March 24. No training classes or badging services will be availabe on those days.
Finally, there will be just two more special after-hours training classes scheduled for those who find it difficult to made the times listed above. They will be at:
Thursday, March 27 at 6:00 PM and
Saturday, March 29 at 10:00 AM.
Both of these classes will be held at Hangar 1 in the Operations Office. Seating is limited to 19, so make your reservations by calling the Operations Office at (734) 485-6675. You can only do this after your application is signed by either Bob Scott or Kevin Grammes and turned in to the Willow Run Operations Office.
Our Warrior has over 10,000 hours on the airframe. Many believe that maintenance costs will become prohibitive on planes this old, so we are considering getting a new (replacement) aircraft in a few years. It is not something we need to jump on right away, but getting a new plane does take long-term planning, which must begin years before the actual purchase. To that end, the Board is looking for someone, or some committee, to research our options. This would include things like investigating potential replacements, researching resale value for our Warrior, and gathering any other data that would help us to make a decision and form a long-term plan. If this type of activity interests you, or if you just want to make sure your Club doesn't do something stupid, contact Steve Thornburg to volunteer.
When your next medical comes due, you can just make an appointment with an AME, go down to the office, and fill out the form 8500-8 by hand. Or, you can take advantage of an on-line option. The FAA has provided a website at:
where you can type in all the form 8500-8 info from the comfort of your home. Then the website will give you a confirmation number. When you go the doctor for the exam, you present the confirmation number and they can download your info from the FAA, so you don't have to fill out the paper form 8500-8 at the doctor's office.
