Dave LaPointe becomes Interim VP. Seeking Nominations.
Kevin Grammes has resigned the Office of VP for personal reasons. He served as Vice President and Membership Officer for a year and three months. He brought in a great many new members and we thank him for his service. According to our Club Constitution, when an Officer resigns, the remaining Board Members will elect a replacement to serve until an election can be held by the full membership. Dave LaPointe has generously agreed to be VP until then, and he was elected by the Board at the Board Meeting on 21 April. A permanent VP will be elected at the next General Membership Meeting on 21 June.
So if anyone wants to submit a nomination for VP, please contact a Board member before the June meeting.
Come to the MDOT Safety Seminar Sponsored by MANG
If you have been watching your mail, you may have noticed a little gray postcard from MDOT advertising the seminar sponsored by MANG on Tuesday April 29th at 6:00 PM at the Plymouth Library. John Keck has spoken with Tom Krashen who will be giving the seminar, and Tom assured John that the topic, "Making (some) Sense of the Federal Aviation Regulations", will not be boring!
In addition, there will be an un-advertised special feature at 6:00, just before Tom's presentation. Pam Palmeri and Holly Czupich are two local female pilots who will be racing in the June 2008 Air Classic Race. They will be at the seminar to talk about the race and their experiences. You can read more about our local racers at this website.
If you have a shirt with the MANG logo on it, then put it on and wear it to the seminar to advertise our Club. We will have a display showing our planes and the attendees may be interested in talking with someone about membership. A lot of friendly MANG faces will do a lot to put forth a good image for our Club.
Also, John Keck has asked that anyone who can show up early to help set up would be appreciated. If you can come early, please call John Keck, or e-mail him at john@computergeeks.cc.
Warrior Still Being Over-Filled
Dale Thorsby reported finding a pool of fuel under the Warrior recently. This is a waste of fuel as well as a safety hazard. Please do not fill the fuel tanks any higher than the bottom of the filler neck ring. Any fuel you put in beyond the height of the vent tube is going to just drip out of the vent eventually.
We have been advised by Willow Run Operations that the gate changeover is now in progress. It should be completed within two weeks. Then you will need your badge and PIN number to open the gate. The old "clicker boxes" will no longer work.
Cessna Parking Brake - Use Feet First
Paul Fortino has just repaired the parking brake on the Cessna. It appears that it may have been damaged by repeated application without first applying the brakes using the foot pedals, so he asked that all members be reminded of how the parking brake should be used.
First, apply and hold the brakes using the foot pedals. Then engage the parking using the hand lever. The lever is supposed to just lock the brakes into the position that was established by the use of the foot pedals. If you try to engage the parking brake using only the hand lever, it will work, but it is asking a lot from a cable that was not meant to do that kind of work, and it may eventually lead to another broken cable.
