Just about everyone in MANG now has a new Willow Run ID badge that is supposed to open the automated gate. But the automated gate still has not been switched over to use the ID badges. It still operates with the garage door opener "clicker boxes" sold by Anglin Aviation. Since we have not heard much from the Willow Run Operations Office recently, I asked Rick Taig, the head of Willow Run Operations, what we can expect. I asked especially to help new members decide if they should spend a non-refundable $35 for an Anglin "clicker box", or should they just use the padlock key for the other gate (East of the automated gate) until the ID badges are enabled. Here is the response I got from Rick:
I would say we are within a matter of weeks before turning the gates over so I would just deal with the key for now. My Director is announcing a tenant badge audit at tomorrow's tenant meeting in preparation for turning the gates on, so we are getting closer. The gates are ready for use, we're just waiting on him to give the contractor the OK.
On August 2nd we will be washing our planes. This will be an easy plane wash because only two of the three planes will be here. So stop by just for the fun of it. Talk with other members. Get to know your Club a little better. It is a great opportunity to learn things about our planes too. You can stop by any time after 8 AM on Saturday, and if you hang around until 11 or so, then you can enjoy a burger or hotdog, and perhaps some home-grown tomatoes too! Plus, if you show up, you can avoid the $10 fee for non-participation.
Kevin Grammes has left our Club, and Craig Frothingham has joined. This leaves the total membership at 54, which means we have room for one more member. If you know someone who might be interested in joining the most cost-effective flying club around, then point them to the Prospective Members portion of our website (on the homepage) where they can find out about our Club and get contact information.
