About a dozen members showed up for the plane wash last Saturday. Despite a brief early clearing, the weather turned to a constant downpour for the rest of the morning. But we forged ahead and washed those planes anyway. Perhaps due to the extra motivation of getting out of the rain as quickly as possible, the planes were washed in record time. Of course we had to bring them back into the hangars to dry them. Then, while Joe McEvoy was away, we enjoyed the culinary artistry of our guest griller, Robb Butts. Mmm, Mmm, good!
Watch for changes at Willow Run
As the construction progresses at Willow Run, watch for changes. For instance, 23R is now closed and 23L is open, and 27L is now taxiway H. If you get taxi instructions that you do not understand, ask them to explain it to you. You won't be the only one asking questions!
Have you ever accidentally locked yourself out of the hangars? Then it may be useful to know that there is a spare hangar key that is accessible just outside the Archer hangar door. The picture on the left shows what it looks like on the hangar door. The one on the right is a close-up of the front when it is removed.
Here is how it works:
Press down on the CLEAR slider until it clicks. This resets the mechanism.
Press the numbered buttons according to the code. (The code is not listed here, since this website is publicly accessible, but the code was sent to each of you by e-mail.) Each numbered button you press should produce a definite "click" when you press it down far enough.
Press down on the OPEN slider and pull the front away from the box from the top. The hangar key is inside.
After you let yourself into the hangar, remember to replace the key and box front. This must be done using the same sequence you used to get it open. You have to press CLEAR, then press the numbered button code, and then press OPEN to get the top tab to retract far enough to allow the box front to be placed back on the box. Try it out the next time you are at the hangar.
