A New Airplane for MANG?

We have an opportunity to buy a slightly newer 1979 Archer II P28A-181 N39749 from Bill Wallo, another tenant at the Bird Cage. It has much lower time on the airframe than our Archer, a spotless interior, no damage history, and some panel goodies that would be nice. On the other hand it has an engine that is the original engine from 1979 and has not been rebuilt and is nearing TBO. We would probably be looking at an expensive overhaul very shortly after buying this plane. And it has an unfamiliar (to us) GPS radio and needs IFR recertification. If we bought this plane it would be to replace one of our existing planes, not to become a four-airplane club.

The issue was discussed at the last MANG Board Meeting on November 8th. No conclusion has been reached, and in any case a decision of this magnitude will not be made without having a vote of the entire membership. On Monday, Nov. 15th, several members of the Board (Robb Butts, Paul Fortino, Paul Plumley, and Bob Scott) met with Bill Wallo at his hangar to take a look at his plane. You can see lots of pictures of the plane (N39749), both inside and outside, right here.

If you would like to have some input on this discussion, contact one of the Board members. If anything comes up between now and the Holiday Party on December 3rd, we will send out a special announcement.

Holiday Party at DeLucas

Don't forget the MANG Holiday Party and General Membership Meeting on Friday, Dec. 3rd. In case you missed the details that Robb Butts sent out last week, you can see them here. Please RSVP by Nov. 30th.

Call for Nominations

We are still open to nominations for President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer for anyone who would like to run. The election will take place at the Dec. 3rd Holiday Party. Contact any Board Member to nominate yourself or someone else.

Willow Run ID Badging - hours cutback and fee starting Dec. 1st.

There is still time to get your badge renewed without paying a fee. We said last month that the fees would go back into effect on Nov. 1st, but the Operations Office has extended the no-fee period for another month. So if you haven't renewed your gate access badge this fall, then do so now or it will cost you $20 later.

Also the hours have been cutback, now that the big rush is over. The badging/training sessions are only on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 and 1:30. But due to staffing and holiday scheduling, there will be no Thursday sessions in November. So the only remaining chances to get a no-fee badge renewal are Tuesdays - Nov. 23 and Nov 30. And you still need to call ahead to reserve a spot.

All the details about the Operations Office can be found by clicking here.
