New Date for Membership Meeting: March 29th
We goofed. Somehow the date we had listed for the March General Membership meeting did not agree with the date that we had reserved the room at the Plymouth Library. So ignore what we said before. The General Membership Meeting is actually on Tuesday, March 29th at 7:00 PM. Among other things, we hope to discuss the possible raising of flying hour rates. As we reported last month, our treasurer, Joe McEvoy, has recommended a $5/hr rate increase. But if we could somehow promote more flying, then perhaps a rate increase could be postponed. Joe prepared these graphs to show why the rate increase might be necessary. If you have any thoughts on this question (including ideas on how to get our planes flying more hours), please come and share them.
Also, there will be a program - an AOPA presentation by Carter Billiu. So if you can make it on that Tuesday evening, then it will be worth your while to come.
Need a New Vice President (new!)
Dave LaPointe is resigning as Vice President due to family concerns. He has served as President in the past, and now as Vice-President he has brought our membership up to the full 55. We have been very fortunate to have had his dedication and commitment to the Club, and I have been priviledged to work with him. But now we need to fill this vital role. The biggest part of the job is being a contact person for new members and talking with them and processing their applications. The other duties are listed in this Club document. The office comes with a perk: one free hour of flying time per month. So please contact anyone on the Board if you would like to be considered for this appointment. The appointment will last until the next scheduled General Membership Meeting, at which time you can run for election to hold the office for the rest of the year.
Dave LaPointe has generously agreed to make himself available to train his replacement. So please take advantage of this opportunity while it is available. You can look up Dave on Schedulemaster and give him a call if you would like more info on what the job entails.
At the last General Membership Meeting on March 29th at the Plymouth Library it was decided that in order to keep pace with the costs of flying our planes, the hourly rates needed to change. The rates for the Warrior and the Archer were both raised by $5 per hour. The new rates, starting April 1st, are:
Cessna: $80 / hr
Warrior: $85 / hr
Archer: $90 / hr.
AOPA Seminar:Close Calls: Lessons Learned
There will be an AOPA and FAAST Team seminar called "Close Calls: Lessons Learned" this Monday evening (March 14th) at the Marriott at Eagle Crest in Ypsilanti (1275 South Huron Street). Here is the description:
All of us have made mistakes, some more serious than others. The key is learning from those mistakes. Close Calls: Lessons Learned is a new seminar from the Air Safety Institute featuring real pilots telling their real stories. You'll see a CFI and his student tell the story of losing a prop in flight. A Bonanza pilot talks of surviving a crash in Oregon. Plus a few other harrowing stories. You will not want to miss this seminar.
