MANG-Sponsored MDOT Seminar April 25th

"Leaving Human Error on the Ground" is the title of the MANG-sponsored MDOT Aviation Safety Seminar which will be held on Monday, April 25th starting at 6:00 PM. These are always interesting and sometimes entertaining. This seminar is being presented by Tera Fricke from Michigan Aeronautics. Hope to see many of you there. This is also an opportunity to promote our Club, so wear your MANG shirt if have one.

One Tank Flights web widget on our web site (Aviation Events, etc.)

A company called One Tank Flights has provided us with a web widget showing interesting places to fly and aviation-related events within a 150 nm. radius of Willow Run airport. You can see this information by clicking on Aviation Events and Places to Fly here or on our home page. We have combined this map display with our previous list of MANG members' reports on good fly-in restaurants, etc., so take a look and see if it gives you some ideas for a flying adventure. One Tank Flights also offers a paid service with expanded coverage of events and places over a larger radius, but we are currently displaying only the "free" version of their web widget. MANG does not endorse One Tank Flights and we are not recommending that members sign up for any paid services. But feel free to take advantage of the free information that is provided here.

Garmin Obstacle Database to be updated

At the last Board Meeting the Board decided to purchase the update to the obstacle database for the Garmin 430s. The update will cost us a total of $150 for all three planes and we plan to buy an update every two years. This will provide our Garmins with updated information on towers and other intrusions into our sky. We decided not to buy the update to the terrain database, which was much more expensive and since ground level elevations do not change that much it did not seem that useful.

First Plane Wash of the year!

What better way to celebrate the coming of nicer weather than to gather on a Saturday morning and help wash our planes! Although we often see the same 15 members, we really want to encourage wider participation. This is an especially good way for new members to become more acquainted with the Club and the people in it. No experience is necessary. And at the end there are hot dogs and hamburgers! So mark your calendars for May 7th at 9:00 AM and hope to see you there. (If you want to see some pictures of a previous plane wash, click here)
